Attachment & Relationship Therapy for Individuals

Romantic, family, friendship, and work relationships.

Michael Myette, LCSW

Does something feel off in the way you connect with your partner, parent, colleague, or even your child?

Do you find yourself caught in recurring patterns of conflict, emotional distance, mistrust, or unclear boundaries?

Do those patterns leave you feeling drained, confused, or stuck?

The way you relate to others shapes so much of your emotional world.

I help you understand the attachment patterns that shape how you connect with others and why certain dynamics around closeness, conflict, trust, and emotional distance keep repeating in your relationships.

“The Best Time To Start Therapy Is As Soon As You’re Thinking About It”

Believing that healthy relationships should feel easy all the time sets people up for disappointment.

In reality, meaningful connection takes intention, reflection, and support- which is exactly what my therapy provides.

In relationship therapy I draw from:

This isn’t just fixing one relationship.

It’s about understanding yourself, your triggers, your needs, your patterns, so you can build better relationships moving forward.

How Relationship- Focused Therapy Can Help

My approach is compassionate, down to earth, and direct.  We’ll work together to understand things like:

  • “Why do I keep ending up in the same relationship patterns?”
You may notice similar dynamics showing up with partners, friends, family, or colleagues. Maybe you take on too much responsibility, avoid conflict, shut down, or find yourself repeatedly feeling misunderstood or disconnected. We’ll identify these patterns, understand what drives them, and work toward more intentional ways of relating.

  • “I don’t know how to say what I need without starting a fight.” Expressing needs, setting boundaries, or navigating conflict can be difficult, especially when those skills were never modeled or when speaking up once carried consequences. We’ll explore how you learned to communicate, what happens when tension rises, and how to express yourself more clearly and effectively.

  • “Why does it seem my past still affects my relationships today?” Old wounds will show up in present-day relationships, even if you thought you’d moved on. Maybe you find it hard to trust, or you brace for rejection even when things seem okay. We’ll make sense of those connections from the past so they stop calling the shots in your life today.

Relationship Therapy for Individuals

You don’t need to attend therapy with a partner to work meaningfully on your relationships. Individual therapy can help you understand your attachment patterns, recognize recurring dynamics, and make intentional changes in how you connect with others.

We’ll look at how earlier relationships and attachment experiences show up in your relationships today, including how you communicate, respond to closeness and conflict, set boundaries, and express your needs. From there, we work on changing the patterns that continue to get in the way.
